Spring Open Day Report
Gathering rain clouds did not deter visitors from the Spring Open Day on 22nd April. In between the showers customers and visitors were able to gather around the engine running area to witness the first UK public running of the proto type Wren Fan Engine, adapted to the Wren 44 Gold engine. Sadly the VC10 was unable to run due to the rain, but was still an impressive sight amongst the model line outside the Wren factory.
Guest speaker, Tim Coles, gave a very interesting presentation in the Wren "Build Room" of the creation of his award winning 5" gauge working model of the gas turbine locomotive 'GT3', powered by an MW54 Turbo Prop. It took 5 men to transport the locomotive from the build room to its rolling road, for an impressive running demonstration in the factory entrance, safely away from the rain.
Room was once more made for model shop stalls, with the regular attendees Jeff Sewell of Jet Legend, Martin Little of Ace Jets and Phil Turner of Revolution Models being kept busy, together with new comer PDL Services (R C Controls), sharing a stand with Jeff Sewell.

The now regular Charity Auction took place towards the end of the day - with over £700 being raised for various charities, including "Strong Bones" (Wren's 2012 charity) - from bids for various donated models, model parts and items collated from a recent Wren spring clean.
Despite the bad weather there was a positive vibe amongst visitors for the beginning of the flying season, many of whom just laughed away the rain......
